TEXAS INSTRUMENTS TEAMS WITH EMERGING BUSINESS PROGRAM

Program to help North Texas minority- and women-owned businesses learn about Super Bowl-related opportunities

December 3, 2009

The North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee has announced Texas Instruments (TI) as the exclusive sponsor of the Emerging Business Program.

Super Bowl XLV will be played on February 6, 2011 at Cowboys Stadium. The Emerging Business Program has recently begun to provide local minority- and women-owned businesses with information and tools to pursue Super Bowl-related contracts and opportunities. The program will also provide training and education.

“TI has been a corporate citizen since its inception in the way it supports education, human services, arts and cultural projects,” said Bill Lively, President and CEO of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee. “This sponsorship is significant and really appreciated.”

“We are pleased that the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee shares our passion in developing emerging business suppliers,” said Trisha Cunningham, TI Director of Corporate Citizenship. “As a company committed to minority- and women-owned procurement, we believe we can help this program have a greater impact on the region and its economy — not only for the Super Bowl but for years to come.”

TI contributed $350,000 to be the exclusive program sponsor. Elements of the Emerging Business Program include outreach to North Texas businesses, a Resource Guide for the NFL and community involved in Super Bowl procurement, workshops, networking, training, contracting and reporting. To qualify for the Program, a business must be owned and operated by a woman or minority and must be located in the North Texas region. A Playbook Workshop Series in fall of 2010 will provide training on topics important to the success of emerging businesses, and a Business Leadership Forum will be held just prior to the Super Bowl.

The first workshop was held in Fort Worth on October 27, 2009. The free session, which attracted more than 600 entrepreneurs, informed attendees about how to become certified as a minority- or woman-owned business and how to best use the Program to foster opportunities. A second workshop will be held on February 25, 2010, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Businesses must register online by midnight March 31, 2010 and become certified by midnight May 31, 2010 in order to be considered for Super Bowl-related procurement opportunities. Businesses that have registered and gained MWBE certification will be included in the online Business Resource Guide that will become available starting in December. They will also be invited to the third and final workshop in Dallas next spring.

Robbie Douglas
, the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee’s Director of Business Development, said, “Our number one goal is to ensure that everyone in the North Texas business community knows about the Emerging Business Program. We can’t promise anyone a contract, but we can work to ensure that every North Texas business understands how to participate.”
