Mayor Tom Leppert

Executive Committee

Tom Leppert was elected mayor of Dallas in June 2007. Prior to his election, Leppert was recognized as both a Dallas business and community leader. He has decades of experience working for prominent U.S. corporations and a long history serving the Dallas community.

Leppert most recently served as Chairman and CEO of The Turner Corporation, one of the world’s largest construction companies. Under his leadership, the $8 billion company experienced tremendous growth. And, in 2005, Leppert led Turner to achieve over $1 billion in minority contracts – a first for the construction industry.

Prior to working at Turner, Leppert held executive positions at McKinsey & Co., Trammell Crow Company, Pacific Financial Corporation and Castle & Cooke Properties, Inc.

A lifelong community volunteer, Leppert has served numerous community groups and charitable organizations on both the local and national levels. He is a former Chairman of the Greater Dallas Chamber and currently serves on the organization’s Executive Committee. He is also Chairman of the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations.

Leppert also serves as a board member of local organizations including the Episcopal School of Dallas, Trinity Trust, Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series at Southern Methodist University, Texas Environmental Research Consortium and the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

On a national level, Leppert is a board member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Advisory Council of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). He is also a member of Young Presidents Organization, World Presidents Organization and Chief Executives Organization.

In addition to his volunteer service for civic and charitable organizations, Leppert also serves on the board of several prominent corporations including Washington Mutual, Inc. and the Baylor University Healthcare System.

In 2006, Leppert received the Global Cross Millennium Award for Corporate Environmental Leadership from Global Green USA and the Torch of Conscience Award from the American Jewish Congress.

Leppert holds an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School and graduated cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in California where he served as student body president. Currently, he is Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Claremont McKenna College, where he also sits on the Executive Committee.

After receiving his M.B.A., Leppert was appointed by President Reagan as a White House Fellow. In this prestigious position, he worked for the Secretary of Treasury and on the White House staff.

Mr. Leppert and his wife Laura live in Dallas and have a son Christian and twins, Catherine and Ryan. They are members of Park Cities Baptist Church.
