On Dec. 28, 1959 the face of football would forever change. That’s the day the legendary Tex Schramm announced that a new franchise, under the tutelage of rookie Head Coach Tom Landry, would be joining the NFL in 1960 — the Dallas Rangers. At least that’s how the team was known then. Originally named the Dallas Steers before adopting the moniker of Rangers, the club would eventually settle on the name Cowboys prior to the ’60 season. The rest, as they say, is North Texas football history.

In each week we’ll take a look at the people

football hotbed and laid the groundwork for
the NFL bringing the Super Bowl here.
